Founded in 2016 by Japanese designer Kiichirō Asakawa, Stein has quickly become a cult name within Tokyo’s contemporary fashion scene. The brand is known for its clean silhouette, precise construction, and a minimalist language that feels both structured and calm.
Asakawa created Stein with the idea of combining function, refinement, and architectural restraint. Nothing is decorative or loud, every line, seam and proportion serves a purpose.
The result is a form of minimalism that feels intentional, detailed, and quietly expressive.
Stein works with high-quality fabrics and a focus on structure: soft yet architectural textiles, oversized shirts, technical outerwear, pleated trousers, knitwear, and tailored pieces.
Many garments feature distinctive construction details, modular belts, asymmetrical fastening, subtle pleats, or engineered collars, giving each piece a strong identity without overstatement.

Signature Pieces
Some of Stein’s most recognisable items include:
Oversized shirts with a relaxed but precise tailoring feel
Structured blazers and trench coats with modular straps or unique closures
Wide, pleated trousers designed for comfort and balance
Soft knits and layered styling pieces that bring softness to the silhouette
Each item looks simple from afar, but reveals craftsmanship and intention up close.
Why Stein Deserves Attention
A clear, coherent aesthetic : minimalism refined through proportion and technique
Design-led clothing : pieces created with structure, thought and consistency
Quiet modernity : a calm, contemporary take on Japanese design
Growing international appeal : appreciated by design-lovers beyond Japan
My Perspective
For me, Stein represents the essence of what makes emerging Japanese brands so compelling:a strong design vision, thoughtful construction, and a truly distinct mood it is a brand that understands how clothing can express calm, balance, and contemporary precision, without ever needing to be loud.

Stein x Umbro Capsule
Stein is currently collaborating with Umbro on a retro football capsule, an 8-piece collection inspired by 90s
sportswear, featuring training jackets, matching trousers, fleece tops and caps. The collection combines cotton-nylon and technical linen-nylon fabrics, creating a look that feels both sporty and minimal, in line with Stein’s structured and carefully considered aesthetic.
The collection is available on Stein’s website and selected retailers
